Mission, Power and Dialogue: Theology of Mission in the Age of Rising Nationalism with Rev'd Dr Joshua Samuel

Joshua's engaging talk provides a background on Hindu fundamentalism and nationalism. He focuses particularly on the status of Dalits and Christian Dalits through a conversation between the Indian context and North American religious political context. Joshua then proposes a theology of mission that speaks from the perspective of grassroots, oppressed communities; pointing out that learning from the margins, such as from Dalit Christianity, can help us to move us towards a more power sensitive, dialogical and sacramental understanding of mission.

Rev'd Dr Joshua Samuel is an ordained minister of the Church of South India currently serving in the Episcopal Church. Along with doing parish ministry, he teaches Theology and Mission at the George Mercer School of Theology, Garden City, New York. He has also served briefly on the faculty of the United Theological College, Bangalore, India.
