Diocesan Representative

What will I be doing?

  • To act as a key USPG volunteer in my diocese, and the local point of contact for the charity’s head office as well as supporting churches and other volunteers.
  • To raise awareness of and support for USPG in my diocese.
  • Communicating with local churches, for example sharing information about upcoming campaigns.
  • Offering a USPG speaker to visit local churches.
  • Staffing stalls at Diocesan level events such as synods, Mission conferences etc.
  • Arranging and promoting fundraising events.
  • To coordinate proactively a team of diocesan volunteers (where such teams exist).

Please note you will not be expected to do everything in the list below, but this gives you an idea of the types of activity you could do in this role. Resources for all these activities will be provided.

What skills and qualities do I need?

  • Enthusiasm for USPG and our work - a passion for mission, for the world church and for sharing the gospel’s transformative message of hope.
  • Initiative and drive - lots of support is provided for this role, but it’s down to each individual to shape their own tasks and take responsibility for promoting USPG locally.
  • The ability to spot opportunities – looking for ways in which the profile of USPG can be raised, and networking within the diocese.
  • Good communication skills – keeping in touch and working with the Volunteering Manager, for example in recruiting potential new volunteers.

What commitment is required?

  • This role is flexible; the days and times of the week for volunteer activity vary, and can fit in around your other commitments.
  • Attend an induction and training day, either in our office in London, at our annual conference or somewhere local to where you live.
