BISHOP GAUL COLLEGE
Since its founding in 1986, Bishop Gaul College has produced over 100 priests and many bishops for the Church of the Province of Central Africa (CPCA). USPG has been a supporter of Bishop Gaul College for many years.
The college is committed to the formation, training, and equipping of both clergy and laity for Christian ministry in the CPCA, which is part of the Worldwide Anglican Communion. It is the college’s intention to contribute spiritually and socially to the community by teaching the laity and it has substantially increased the number of lay students enrolled there.
The college caters primarily to students from the five Dioceses in Zimbabwe and the Diocese of Botswana, but in recent years it has opened to students from countries outside the CPCA. The intake of overseas students has brought an international flavour to Bishop Gaul College and encouraged home-based students and faculty alike to think beyond their borders. The college has also seen an increase in the number students from the laity who are now being trained there. The impact of a wider range of people trained to spread the Good News is very much in line with the college’s objectives.
Courses Bishop Gaul College offers include: Diploma courses in Theological Studies and in Theology and Pastoral Studies. There is a Bachelor of Theological Studies course that is open to anyone wants to study for a degree, regardless of their church background. It also offers a range of short courses and certificate programmes.
The Anglican University of Zimbabwe’s (AUZ) Department of Religious Studies, Classics and Philosophy has looking at possible ways to work collaboratively with Bishop Gaul College. There is the strong hope that the AUZ will establish a campus there. If this were to happen, the AUZ would become the accrediting board for Bishop Gaul’s programmes.
