The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts (SPG) first sent missionaries to India in 1820, before the country was divided into modern-day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. SPG missionaries arrived in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1840 and China in 1863, but they were forced to withdraw from China in 1950/1951.
Today, USPG has long and cherished relationships with churches across Asia. USPG is also in partnership with the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, which covers churches in Egypt, Eritrea and Ethiopia, the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf and the Diocese of Egypt With North Africa and the Horn of Africa.
Today, USPG also has a cherished relationship with the Church of the Province of South East Asia, which covers Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Nepal. USPG also has relationships with churches in Hong Kong, Korea and Japan.
