Is this a record for 'Virtual Preaching'?

First published on: 5th May 2020

Rev’d Duncan Dormor, the General Secretary of USPG ‘Zoomed around the World’ on Sunday 3 May 2020.  Virtually travelling to 33 countries, he covered well over 60,000 miles, all from his study in London!

Duncan said, “At a time when the world is facing a common threat, albeit the impact of Covid-19 varies in different in parts of the globe,  now is a really important moment to reach out and express our global solidarity as sisters and brothers in Christ. As a global mission agency, USPG brought greetings to churches and offered biblical reflections whilst preaching across the world.

I ‘virtually attended’ services around the world over 24 hours on Sunday 3 May and during this time shared some 16 messages and sermons with our cherished global partners and encountered several languages including Bangla, Belize, Brazil, Korean, Portuguese, Sinhala, Tagalog and Tamil. USPG supports climate justice initiatives, and it was exciting to see just how connected we could with judicious use of technology, whilst sharing Christ’s love for one another.”

Starting his virtual journey on Saturday 2 May at 2330, Duncan connected with USPG partners in American Samoa, Bangladesh, Belize, Brazil, Cameroon, Cape Verde,  the Cook Islands, Fiji, The Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guinea, India, Liberia, Korea, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Morocco, New Zealand, Pakistan, The Philippines, Samoa, Senegal, The Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Tanzania, Tonga and the Windward Isles.

Duncan should be addressed world-wide congregation numbers in their thousands in less than 24 hours.  USPG believes this is a ‘first’ for virtual preaching and very possibly a world record too.
