Archbishop of Canterbury Endorses Communion Day of Prayer
The Archbishop of Canterbury has given his backing to next week’s Anglican Communion Day of Prayer. In a statement Archbishop Justin Welby said, ‘I would like to wholeheartedly endorse the Anglican Communion Day of Prayer. It is a wonderful opportunity for our global Communion to unite and come to God to pray for our world. And it is particularly timely as we think of the difficulties facing so much of the world right now. I would encourage everyone to make time to get involved in what will be a significant day.’

The Day of Prayer, on 30 November, has been coordinated by USPG with the support of other mission agencies and provinces across the Anglican Communion. The idea is for Christians to engage in a wave of prayer sweeping around the globe over 24 hours.
Responding to the statement USPG’s General Secretary, the Rev’d Dr Duncan Dormor, said, ‘We are delighted that Archbishop Justin is encouraging us all to unite and come together in prayer on 30 November. It will be a wonderful opportunity for hundreds of thousands of Christians to pray alongside and be in solidarity with each other at this time.’
The Day of Prayer starts at midnight UTC (GMT) with 30 minutes of prayer and worship focused on Melanesia. The focus then moves around the world in half-hour slots before concluding 24 hours later with prayers for Canada. So far, more than 25 provinces have contributed to the Day of Prayer by sending in films.
The Rev’d Davidson Solanki, one of the organisers of the Day of Prayer, added, ‘It is so encouraging to receive Archbishop Justin Welby’s endorsement for the Communion Day of Prayer. We are very grateful to the archbishop for his wholehearted support. It inspires us to double our efforts as we strive to unite everyone in prayer and solidarity during these challenging times.’
