USPG is excited to introduce our Senior Leadership Team.
Dr Eve Parker joins us as Director of Global Mission, working with our Regional Managers on developing relationships with USPG’s partners across the Anglican Communion and beyond. Eve joins USPG from Durham University, where she worked on their Common Awards programme – an initiative designed to provide university-level theological education to students across the UK. Previously she was Director of Studies in the Diocese of Manchester, and has published several books on theological education and liberation theologies. Eve also has extensive experience of working with the world church, having held positions at the Council for World Mission and in the Global and Intercultural Ministries team at the United Reformed Church.
‘I am delighted to be joining USPG at such a critical time for global mission. Around the world, we are witnessing so many injustices: war torn nations, refugee crises, environmental degradation, an increase in violence against women, and a widening gap between the rich and the poor. It is my hope, that in the face of such injustices, the global mission work of USPG will be in solidarity with those who suffer and are oppressed. I look forward to journeying with USPG’s partners to amplify the voices of the marginalised, profess the good news, and work collectively for a more just and peaceful world.’
Dr Nigel Varndell joins USPG as our Director of Communication and Engagement, building connections with churches across the UK and Ireland and leading engagement with supporters. He previously worked at Christian Aid, Embrace the Middle East and The Children’s Society. Nigel has a wealth of experience of working with partners in the world church and within the context of Anglicanism in the UK.
‘It is an exciting time to be joining USPG, as the agency navigates what mission looks like in a post-pandemic world. I am looking forward to connecting with our supporters in the UK and partners across the world church as we grow and develop the USPG family.’
Finally, we are delighted to welcome Vijay Christian as our new Director of Finance. He has worked in the charity sector for over 20 years and been involved with church life in various ways since his youth.
‘I am looking forward to joining USPG because it will give me an opportunity to work with different churches from different cultures around the world. It is my pleasure and honour to use my talents to serve Jesus through the work of USPG.’
The Rev’d Dr Duncan Dormor, USPG’s General Secretary, says, ‘It is an exciting time to be involved with USPG. Eve, Nigel and Vijay all bring expertise and enthusiasm to their roles and I look forward to working closely with them as we rethink mission, energise churches and champion justice.’
