USPG is helping to provide food for refugees arriving in Hungary from Ukraine. Around 370,000 Ukrainian refugees have crossed the border to reach Hungary since Russia invaded Ukraine. More than four million refugees have left Ukraine over the course of the conflict.
Funds from USPG’s Ukraine emergency appeal are going directly to Next Step Hungary, which helps refugees who have just arrived in the country. Next Step has a delivery and pick-up centre where refugees receive non-perishable food items as well as regular hot meals. This funding will help up to 200 new arrivals every week for the next three months.
USPG’s support will particularly help refugees without permanent Ukrainian citizenship, who receive little support from the Hungarian government. These refugees are not entitled to the same level of financial aid as Ukrainian citizens, meaning they face urgent issues like finding food to eat and a place to stay.
Further details about the organisations USPG is funding through our emergency appeal will be made available over the coming months. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, we pray for Ukrainians who remain in the country and those who have been forced to leave.
