This week sees an exciting new venture taking place. An international summit on ‘The Future of Theological Education’ is being held in Botswana’s capital, Gaborone, hosted by the Anglican Church. The culmination of months of sustained conversation and creative thinking with our partners in the region, USPG is proud and delighted to be organising the event. Together, we continue our journey to change the menu of theological education from a Euro-centric snack to a global feast.
The focus of the summit, in the Diocese of Botswana, the Church of the Province of Central Africa (CPCA), will be to seek to make theological education in Africa robust and enduring. Bringing together a rich mix of influencers from USPG’s seven partner provinces, to help shape a lasting programme, the conference, meeting from 8-11 November, promises to be a powerful tool to invigorate sustained learning. Archbishops, bishops, chairpersons of theological boards, and heads and deans of theological institutions will share their thinking and envision what theological education brewed in an African pot looks like.
Joined by theologians from across the Anglican communion, they will critically review the landscape and see where the challenges lie for redrawing the roadmap. This unique collaboration has potentially far-reaching implications for the revitalising of theological education in all the participating Anglican provinces. ‘Be transformed by the renewing of your minds’ writes St Paul.
