Bishop Jonathan Frost, USPG Trustee and Dean of York, has been appointed as the new Bishop of Portsmouth. In this role, he will have responsibility for 133 parishes across south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Bishop Frost will succeed the Rt Rev'd Christopher Foster, who retired at the end of May 2021. Bishop Frost was ordained a priest in the Church of England in 1994 and served as Suffragan Bishop of Southampton for 9 years before becoming Dean of York in 2019. He became a USPG Trustee in 2017.
On hearing the news of Bishop Frost's appointment, USPG General Secretary Rev'd Duncan Dormor said, 'I am truly delighted that Bishop Jonathan, a Trustee of USPG, has been appointed as the new Bishop of Portsmouth. He will bring a wonderful combination of pastoral warmth, wisdom and a passionate commitment and understanding of what it means to serve our neighbour – global and local – through mission and justice, today. I am thrilled that the people and parishes of Portsmouth will have such inspiring leadership.'
